NZ Games Festival is excited to bring you Character Select, a games themed cosplay event, in 2019. Gamers all across the country are celebrating their favourite games in unique ways – and cosplay is one of the most spectacular!

Character Select is open to amateurs and seasoned cosplayers alike, as well as having categories for home-made and bought costumes. We want to welcome all kinds of cosplayers to take part and have a great time. You can also attend in cosplay regardless of whether or not you want to compete!

In addition to fawning over beautiful cosplays, you’ll get to have fun with likeminded people, earn spot prizes and maybe even learn a thing or two at our half-time tutorials.

EVENT DETAILS

  • Suitable for all ages.
  • Competition entries close 5pm Friday 19 April. Please click here to read the rules – https://nzgamesfest.com/character-select-rules/
  • Changing rooms will be available at the venue for cosplayers.
  • As the venue is right by Cuba Street, there are plenty of food options available for attendees during the break.
  • As part of NZ Games Festival, the NZGF Safe Space Policy applies to this event: https://nzgamesfest.com/safe-space-policy/

COSTUME & PROP RESTRICTIONS

In light of recent events, to avoid false alarms with the general public & waste of police resources, Character Select is instituting the following policies:

Imitation firearm props: MUST have an orange cap, be non-firing (including Nerf bullets) and MUST be transported to and from the venue in a bag/box/some form of covering, INCLUDING when leaving for lunch. Any props that do not meet this rule will be confiscated at the door and surrendered to the local police station for collection at a later date. We make no guarantees for the safety of confiscated props.

This rule refers to any prop gun that your hard-of-sight grandma might mistake as maybe being a 'real' gun – a Nuka Cola pistol is fine, a Last of Us shotgun is not.

Military/uniform costumes: MUST be changed into at the venue, and changed out of before leaving the venue, INCLUDING for lunch. We have dedicated cosplay changing rooms which you are welcome to use for these purposes. You will not be permitted in or out of the venue in a costume that falls under this description.

This rule refers to anything that your un-savvy kid cousin might mistake as maybe being a 'real' soldier – Master Chief is fine, a Call of Duty ground soldier is not.

For our full costume safety rules, please read section 9 of the competition rules at https://nzgamesfest.com/character-select-rules/

If you're uncertain and would like to ask about a particular costume, please email events@nzgamesfest.co.nz
